Is anyone having positive experiences this year, or is the game just broken? It’s undoubtedly broken, 100%.

However, I’m genuinely enjoying it. My group of friends, who haven’t played for years, joined in, and we share our rewards every week via screen sharing. We engage in pro clubs about three times a week, which is a thousand times more enjoyable than Ultimate Team (UT), although we’re also having a lot of fun with UT. It feels a bit surreal with the amount of hate this game is getting, and I don’t know if I’m going crazy.

The game was nearly great before the pre-press and the first patch that significantly improved AI defending and jockeying.

It’s 100% broken because the CPU triggers animations and tackles. Pressing works better now because:

  • All the massive animations that were reserved for the highest-valued cards are now available to everyone. This wouldn’t be a significant issue if not for:
  • The CPU could never tackle you before this year unless you ran into them or it was a CPU full sprint track-back center back who ran into you, which was a rare occurrence. You could manage distance, but now they trigger bumps and ball kicks.
  • The servers play the magic bullet game (FPS). You think a pass is safe, a tackle is safe, but your opponent’s game is an entirely different chessboard. This was much less apparent when playstyles didn’t exist. Now, players who aren’t remotely close to intercepting a pass do so. Because instead of having to be one or two clicks close, it’s three or four. Now, add in the different game board.

That, my friends, is what some think is Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment (DDA) but is actually the game working in the wrong way – it’s broken.

Some people talk about a skill gap, but when the game forces a 93 Modric, uncovered, to take a kick with his weak foot instead of his strong foot and loop it, making these unusual instances seem normal, it’s a server gap. Or maybe I didn’t put enough Money and FC 24 Coins in? Maybe.
